We’re headed back down south

My partner and I have lived our whole lives in the northern area of the country. We have lots of friends and family close by, and were reluctant to move away. However, we were extremely tired of dealing with the long, freezing winters. It is not uncommon for us to run our furnace for eight months of the year. The outside temperature frequently drops well below zero, the windchill is punishing, and the snow piles up in feet. We were ready to stop of bundling up in wool coats, shoveling the driveway, and paying way too high heating bills. We made the decision to purchase a winter home in the south. Setting up a second home was more expensive and difficult than we expected. We needed to purchase everything from furniture and dishes, to linens and tools. Trying to take care of both homes is also pretty stressful. The first year, several jobs were completely overlooked. Such as, I completely forgot about scheduling professional HVAC maintenance at the two houses. We headed down south for the fall, and I never called that HVAC technician to service the furnace in our home up north. When we headed back north in the spring, I did not remember to have air conditioner inspected down south. I ended up paying higher energy bills and minor repairs for the two HVAC systems. Since then, I have enrolled in an HVAC maintenance plan in both locations. Now, the HVAC company calls me up and reminds me that it’s time for seasonal maintenance. This has made my life a lot easier, and is definitely saving me a great deal of time and money. Plus, the HVAC system is more dependable and efficient.
