My mom is constantly sharing pictures and stories about rescue dogs lately. She and my dad lost their Labrador retriever recently and when he passed away, they said that they would get another dog eventually. I knew that mom wanted a companion pet to keep her company while dad was at work. There was one little dog that really caught my attention. I took it upon myself to contact the adoption center and see if she was still available. She was an adorable, caramel-colored, curly-haired poodle. I surprised them with her and they named her Lexy. I was quite proud of myself for finding them such a perfect pet, unfortunately, the next day, mom called to tell me that Lexy had dug underneath their mobile home and done a bunch of damage to the ductwork. Apparently there was a family of mice that had been living under there and she was trying to search them out. They ended up having to call out an HVAC company to fix the ductwork, and the service ended up costing a couple hundred dollars. I was worried and I thought that, because of the HVAC repair, our parents were going to want to return Lexy. They did not, but. I think her sweet nature and big brown eyes saved her! They started keeping a closer eye on her when she went outside so that she would not have a chance to tear up anything again. She has not messed with the HVAC or underneath the trailer again, and my parents now love her very much. The new ductwork has been installed and paid for, and they have forgiven Lexy for messing up the old ductwork. Even after all of that trouble and expense they realize that she is a perfect fit for the family. I am happy for all of them.
